Brandywine, Delaware October 19, 1912
The one hundredth
anniversary of the victory of the American sloop of war, Wasp, over the
British warship, Frolic, on October 18, 1812, was held here by the
Delaware Society of Daughters of The War of 1812. The event is
especially interesting for the reason that Commodore Jacob Jones, st
that time Captain, was in command of the Wasp, was a native Delawarean,
and the victory was due to his bravery. The celebration was held at the
New Century Club which is located one block from the Brandywine Cemetery
where Commodore Jones is buried. An address was delivered by Judge
Henry C. Conrad, of Georgetown, judge of the Delaware Supreme Court, also a leading authority of Historic Matters in this State. Archdeacon C. H. B. Turner, of Lewes also spoke.
