THANKSGIVING
1943
For
sure there have been few occasions in Americas history on
which we Americans have
had
more and better reasons to give thanks than they have
on this 1943 Thanksgiving Day.
True,
we are in the midst a most terrible war,
millions
of our young men and women are overseas
in
much dangerous situations
and
there are empty chairs at the family tables.
Yet,
the past 12 months have brought to us, as a nation, many
blessings
for which we can give heartfelt thanks.
Providence
has smiled upon a majority of our undertakings in the
air,
on the seas and battlefields and we have met and defeated
enemies
in
one accounter after another. Lands have been recovered from the
Nazis,
U-Boats have been driving into cover in the Atlantic and
it
appears
we are in control of air space the world over.
We
can be thankful too for the millions of
Americans
who found within themselves the
courage,
wisdom and determination that the times
demanded.
Let
us hope and pray today that we rise and meet
the
responsibilities that lie ahead.
