BEAUTIFCATION 1929
MRS.
HENRY B. THOMPSON
The
Wednesday, July 24, 1929 Wilmington Morning News reports
the
report of the Mosquito Control Committee by Mrs. Henry B.
Thompson,
Mayor Ralph Poynter, and Lt. Governor Hall Anderson,
covering
the period April 1928 to July 1929 is completed.
It
includes the cleaning and improvement of Silver Lake that has had
a
levee
made at the upper end and a 300 foot drainage ditch to drain the
marsh
end. The 2-1/2 mile ditch with laterals that have drip cans of
oil
to
control mosquito birth. The dunes next to the ocean have been
cleared
of
rubbish.
Lake
Comegy's had been laid out and cleaned by Albert Hall and Rowe
Von Pleasanten so that out of that bog a pretty lake was made
and connected to Silver Lake by a pipe so it's waters can ebb
and flow.
Lake
Gerar and Irenee duPonts project were cleaned and improved by
Albert Hall of Penn State college.
Rehoboth
Avenue, Henlopen Circle and the section around the train station
were
improved with placement of shrubs and flower beds around them.
