GEORGETOWN HOSPITAL
In the December 19, 1946,
Wilmington News Journal, it is announced that plans
for a hospital in
Georgetown are now 'real' as temporary officers and committees
approved
the charter for “Sussex
Central Hospital, Inc. “ , a permanent organization was
effected, and
by-laws adopted.
A report of the site
committee , which included Julian Townsend and John Isaacs ,
the advisory committee,
Dr. Joseph Waples, Dr. Aubrey Smoot and Dr. Van Valkenburgh.
was presented. Land on
Primary Avenue, south and east of the high school athletic field,
in the Wagamon – Tunnell
subdivision , will be donated by James Tunnel, Henry C.
Wagamon and J. Burton
Wagamon, Jr.
Harold W. T. Purnell has
been elected president, Henry Graves, vice president,
Lawrence Elliott,
secretary, his assistant , Houston Wilson, treasurer, Julian
Townsend,
his assistant, James
Tunnell , Jr.
Committee's , now
permanent, are Publicity; Charles Lane and James Goslee;
Gifts; Howard Abbott,
Henry Graves, Nutter Marvel and Houston Wilson;
John S. Isaacs is
chairman of the building committee.
All of the officers and
committee members are also on the Board of Directors.
