What the Officers and
Enlisted Men were doing 100 Years Ago
Delaware City, Delaware
September 2, 1912 :
Captain William Forse is
back in command now after recovery of an illness of a week or so.
During this period Lieutenant E. A. Stockton, Jr., was acting
adjutant .
Six soldiers of the
81st Company, Coast Artillery Corps, are confined
to the Fort DuPont guard house as a result of a shooting at
Dobbinsville near New Castle.
The 139th
Company of the Mining Corps of Fort DuPont will leave
September 3
for Fort Teerey New York
where they will engage in target practice.
Captain Lewis S. Ryan,
post ordinance officer, left Friday for Ft. Monroe ,
Virginia and First Lieutenant Adelino Gibson take over his
command.
The 55th and
81st Companies Coast Artillery Corps who have been
stationed at the Small Arms Firing Range have returned to Ft.
DuPont.
The 13th Coast
Artillery Corps Band and the 45th, 55th and
81st Companies will travel to Atlantic City to
participate in the parade of Spanish American War Veterans
September
10 on a special train and
return that night.
Lieutenant Edgar Craft
who has been stationed with the 29th Infantry at Mount
Gretna has returned to Ft. DuPont. Captain Harry Purnell of the
Madison Barracks is to report to Fort DuPont at an early date.
First Lieutenant Pierre Kieffer is to report to Fort Monroe, in
Virginia in December for
Coast Artillery School.
Commissary Sergeant
Frang Gortz has retired after 30 years active service and he and
his wife have just returned from a trip to Germany, Switzerland and
Italy.
Lieutenant Frederick H.
Foucar of the Fort DuPont Medical Corps is to report to the
Hot Springs, Arkansas
Army & Navy General Hospital at and early date. Major
Eugene Hartnett of DuPont
Medical Corps will report to Fort Robinson, Nebraska upon
being relieved.
The 36th
Company of Coast Artillery Corps at Fort Mott New Jersey will
return from Fort Monroe, Virginia target practice.
Lt. Foucar , Sgt.
Sliney, and Pvts Yale and Swickert on field maneuvers with
the 15th
Cavalry at Bolinor Heights, Harpers Ferry, Virginia have
returned to Ft. DuPont.
The 13th Coast
Artillery Corps Band and the 112th Company Coast
Artillery Corps
of Fort DuPont will
leave on September 23 for Altoona, Pennsylvania to partake
in
the 15th
Anniversary of Loyal Governors Conference on September 24, 25
and 26.
The 13th Coast
Artillery Corps Band and members of the non commissioned staff
are all set to engage in
revolver practice at Fort DuPont at an early date.
The Cavalry stables at
Fort DuPont have been completed.
