1968 FALLOUT SHELTER


Cape May Court House February 24, 1968:

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Cape May County Civil Defense will stock the

Cape May-Lewes Ferry Boats as floating fallout shelters with the approval of Delaware

River & Bay Authority.

The Cape May county CD's , Leland Stanford, has sent requisition's to the Federal

Government for the medical and radiological equipment to be place aboard the four

vessels. The loading will not effect the traffic upon the boats and will be done by volunteers

ans the supplies are free by the government.

Each ferry boat will accommodate 1400 people with food, water and bunks for sleeping

below deck and will also serve the Cape Henlopen area.
