THE PURCHASE OF GEORGIA FROM THE CREEK INDIAN TRIBES

In the year 1826 a treaty with the Chiefs of the Creek Nation , recently ratified by the

Senate, secures, to the State of Georgia close to three million acres on the east and wes
t
sides of the Chattahooche River, except a bit land by former treaty at Indian Springs.

The United States has agreed to pay $217,650.00 to the Creek Nation plus a perpetual

annuity of $20,000, thus ending difficulties with the Creek's who are allowed two years to

vacate former treaty land east of the Chattahooche.
