Bird
watchers are not always little old women in tennis shoes, 73%
are
male and 2/3's of Americans feed birds and 84% own a
pet
of
some kind.

Yale professor of Forestry & Environmental studies, Stephen
Kellert,
reports
these facts and also that 78% of the population watches
Marlin
Perkins TV show “ Wild Kingdom”. Other findings, 44.4% of
his
survey go fishing, a 43% of 'hunters' do so for the meat, the
south
holds
50.9% of fishermen.
The
organizations cited as conservation organizations are; National
Geographic
Society, Nation Rifle Association, National Wildlife
Federation,
the Audubon Society, The Natural History Museum,
Ducks
Unlimited, Sierra Club and the Nature Conservancy,
He
reports a rapid growth of in the wild life pet trade. Three
million
live
mammals and reptiles were imported in 1978. 17% own Racoons,
14%
have snakes, and 4% keep skunks.
