SHROUD
OF TURIN
AUTHENTIC
The
Saturday, October 3, 1981, Salisbury Daily Times published
this
writing
by George W. Cornell, an AP Religion Writer. I remember
the
subject being rather controversial at the time, but, never
remembered
the
outcome. Here is the story.
There
was a “Shroud of Turin” research project and many
consultants.
50
or more, known as STRUP, that performed experiment and analyses,
and
issued a final report in 1981.
This
report concluded the ancient 14 x 4 linen cloth did in fact wrap
the body of the crucified Jesus and holds evidence of the
Resurrection.
Kenneth
Stevenson , spokesman for STRUP, and , Gary Haberman,
consultant
, write;
'
The evidence is not pure proof, however, is the best explanation
of
the results of the physical, chemical, medical, and historical
facts
at
hand. Technical findings are presented in the book “ Verdict
on the
Shroud”
The evidence was approached in a skeptical posture and
judgments
of probability that favor the authenticity of shroud as
evidence
for Jesus' death and resurrection.
The
probability of odds are 83 to 1 that it was Jesus buried in the
shroud
. Facts indicate the body was not removed from the cloth by
humans,
but by a scorch of heat from “extraordinary occurrence”
not
explained by natural means.
