OCTOBER
1986 FROM ME TO YOU
COWBOYS
COOKIES
Nagy
writes that in September she and two friends, Amanda and
Patty, took a real vacation, one where they left the eastern
shore flew out to New Mexico. Nagy said she sat at a window seat
right over the
right
wing and saw to it that it stayed right where it belonged and did
its
job
very well.
They
had to go through St Louis to get to Albuqueque to rent a car
to
drive to Santa Fe where they wants to go. There they stayed at
the
Inn
of Governors on Don de Perala Street for the week. Santa Fe was
into
the second day of a three day Fiesta Zozobra which ended at the
craft
fair market where silver jewelry was on a last day sale. Great
price
reductions
were had.
She
enjoyed the mountains, said they looked like castles and forts,
there
were the Indian cliff dwellings. They rode the Cumbres &
Toltes
railway
to see scenic Colorado mountains and lots of cattle which got
on the tracks and held up the train trip. We liked the people as
they were
very
nice and wished us “via con Dios.
Here
is this months recipe for Cowboy Cookies which my kids
loved
because they thought cowboys actually ate them.
A
cup of granulated sugar, a cup of brown sugar, a cup of shortin,
and
cream,
'add' two eggs,, drop or two of vanilla, all sifted together
three
times,
then add to the creamy stuff. 2 cups of flour, pinch of salt,
some
baking
soda, stir, , two or three cups of oatmeal, chocolate chips
and
flaked
coconut to your likin. Drop by the tablespoon on a greased
baking
sheet, bake for ten minutes at 340 degree in oven.
