REHOBOTH BEACH HISTORY
RESORT AIR MEET SET FOR
JULY 20, 1940
The annual summer Air
Meet of the Rehoboth Air Service, Inc., will be held July 20
and 21 at the modern
landing field at Rehoboth Beach just outside of Rehoboth at
Midway and the Rehoboth Flying Club dance will take place
June 4th.
The plans for the two
major events of the Air Service were made Tuesday night at the
directors meeting held at
the Bottle & Cork tavern in Dewey Beach. Magistrate Leon L.
“Blub” Thompson,
president of Rehoboth Air Service, presided at the dinner meeting
where he and the
directors were guest of Harry Shaud. Directors present were
William
Thoroughgood, Hubert O.
Noble, Forest Snyder, Ernest Megee, Jr., Walter Feaster and
Milton Fried.
The spring dance is an
important social event for the airmen held each year at the
official opening of the resort summer season. This year the
Philadelphia Mills Orchestra will
furnish the music.
The Summer Air Meet
attracts visiting airplanes from all over the country and
invitations
are being mailed out said
Magistrate Thompson.
The two day weekend event
is to have spectacular demonstrations in flying and racing
held before large crowds
and has been held since 1936.
Since the organization of
the Flying Service and construction of the modern landing field
Rehoboth resort has become
a mecca in the summer months.
