HISTORY OF CAPE HENLOPEN
AND BEYOND
WHAT SENATOR J. R. BIDEN
HAD TO SAY ABOUT CAPE HENLOPEN IN 1982
Senator Biden always
enjoyed visiting Cape Henlopen State Park but was now to
enjoy it more since the
Federal General Service Commission formalized a decision
reached in 1982 to turn
back to the people of Delaware 330 acres of land controlled
by the Navy.
Biden regrets that Senator
Caleb Bogggs is not around to enjoy the return as it was he who
began back in 1971 the
campaign to get back the Government lands. Biden said his
primary objective to
return the Cape dunes to the generations ahead. There has been a
10 year struggle with
federal bureaucracy to make this decision. The first land was
retrurned in 1978 by the
Navy controlled beach front and the Army's 94 acres. The ob is
not done yet as the Navy
still has 15 acres and the Army 95.
