The Assateague Island
Lighthouse, a 110 year old structure, at the southern end
of the primitive barrier
reef, off the Maryland & Virginia coast will be opened
next year for a
visitors tourist attraction was announced by Worthington
Thompson of the Delmarva
Advisory Council .
The old lighthouse,
towering 147 feet above sea level sits on a sand dune in
the Chincoteague
National Wildlife Refuge which joins the Assateague National
Seashore of the
National Park Service.
