IGA SUPERMARKETS
IGA is a group of
grocery stores in more than 30 countries but are unlike a chain
store
business. The stores are
owned an operated locally by families. It's headquarters are in
Chicago
.
IGA began May 1926 when
a group of 100 independent grocers led by J. Frank Grime
organized in a single
marketing system with access to a supply chain. In 1930 there
were 8000
grocery stores in the IGA
system.
The alliance offers IGA
brands, a logistical network to distribute them, training and
advertising to store in
Canada, Australia, Philippines.
IGA uses the slogan
“Hometown Proud Supermarkets” and are generally found in
smaller
cities and towns
throughout the United States.
