HISTORY OF MAGNOLIA
METHODIST
CHURCH DESTROYED IN 4 HOUR FIRE
Sunday,
December 7, 1941 Wilmington Morning News
The
84 year old Magnolia Methodist Church was destroyed this morning
by
fire which started in the chimney just before services were to be
held.
Fifty
firemen of five fire companies battled the blaze for four hours in
a
strong northwest wind. The structure was fully gutted. Ice also
was
a
factor which hampered the firemen efforts.
The
Rev. Walter Beckwith, pastor, said the building was a total loss
and
only partly covered by insurance. A renovation costing $1500 had
recently
been completed and fully paid for. Home coming service was
held
23 November.
