LEWES HISTORY: LEWES AND THE COURT HOUSE

LEWES SUSSEX DELAWARE HISTORY 1902
LEWES AND THE COUNTY COURT HOUSE

The Lewes Pilot newspaper recently announced that a movement is underway to have

the Sussex county court house in Georgetown moved back to Lewes and needless to say a

vigorous protest arose. There is a strong sentiment I favor of moving the Court House to

Lewes calling that the county seat be located where it would serve to greatest number of

people having to do business with it. So, if Lewes wants the Court House she will need to

become a great city with a large majority of people to do business. Only the future knows if

this is close at hand. Meanwhile, the Sussex County Court House will remain at Georgetown,

the geographical center of Sussex County.
