AT REHOBOTH
Saturday,
August 9, 1902, Rehoboth bathers were much surprised and
interested to notice
a large circle
of light around the sun, known as a corona, this one of the
largest and most
distinct ever
seen , is an indication of a very heavy storm. The storm has
yet to appear.
The long line
of cars behind the incoming engine on the Queen Anne's railroad is
evidence
of large
excursion crowds and last Thursday, the 7th, there
were 11 cars being backed down the main track, when the last car
broke the post at the track end and derailed.
The rail road
station was center of attraction as the specials and regular
trains of the
Pennsylvania
and Queen Anne's came in Saturday night with crowded trains.
Whistles
and bells
rang, hackmen yelling, you would have thought you were at a
large metropolis
but it was
only a Saturday night confusion when fathers, sons, brothers,
sweethearts and
relatives
come from far and wide to enjoy the sea air and bathing in the
Atlantic Ocean.
The Douglass
house hop, featuring the Delaware College Boys, Saturday night had
so any visitors that hackmen had to make double trips which is not
the usual. The Episcopal
Church,
Sunday, with Bishop Coleman at the pulpit , was unusually
large. The new
beach service
held Sunday at sunset gathered many to the boardwalk.
Rehoboth can
now boast it's public park, small but ornamental, at the upper end
of Rehoboth
Avenue, with a
appearance that is encouraging. Contracts have been let to
lengthen the
boardwalk and
establish an electric plant for the future comfort of Rehoboth.
