Fingers are used the world over to help us communicate, sometime in a rude way and

there are actually some of us that could not communicate if we had to wear mittens.

A problem is that finger communication's are not universal the world over.

Here at home the OK or 'V' for victory fingers sign mean everything is hunky dory,

some other places it is the same as giving 'the finger'. In Japan it tells the merchant you want

your chance in coins. The French use it to say they are worthlessly drunk.

When traveling, keep you hands in your pockets, and don't say anything either.

In Australia you should not 'root' for your team. Rooting there is the same as our “ F “ word.

Staring constantly at someone in the Middle East is normal, but in a New York subway, you

might get arrested.

And you don't need to go overseas to get in trouble. Big city gestures are sometimes

misunderstood by us county folk.

Then there is the 'high five' handshake, at sports events when a score is had, the hook your

fingers, grab the wrist, twist them, rub your palms, do a 360 in the air, high fives, last

the hard bump of fists. Picture two cowboys or farmer in the midwest saying hello that

way early morning.

The raised finger off the steering wheel is a friendly gesture in the county but not so in big

cities.

Now some advice to city strangers to the country road, where they are lost, do not, try to

pet the 'car alarm' in the back of a pickup. You may not have any fingers left to communicate

with.
